Post by CBA » 28 Jan 2011 02:46 am

its been screaming on and off for last 800 miles, I thought it was rusty brakes at first since it quietened down after 50 miles but its bsck and getting more constant and louder.
actually i should whip out the socket set.. even if it is 2am.. lazy bugger.

its noisiest when the revs are increasing via dropping a gear during engine braking eg 3rd to 2nd or blipping throttle in neutral.
confined to cambelt cover area..
camshaft bearing?

Could be, the only real way of testing is to take the belt off and test each one by hand. Make sure they are cold though, when my tensioner went it spins freely when hot but seized when cold.

No the bearings will be sealed and likely half melted. Find what it is first and do it ASAP - you will regret it when it seizes and you end up with a row of bent valves
