340 conversion on a budget

Post by b10opc »

Hi i have recently bought this
Image

Its a 1.4 340 dl with a 4 speed box

And am looking to get side on by awesome fest next year (july)

The car cost 400 and is a fine specimen for 27 years of age with 75000 miles on the clock

I cant really afford to spend loads and loads but do want to convert the engine to some thing abit more powerful considering the 1.4 wouldnt pull the skin off a custatd

I understand the prop spline problems i am facing and have been told the best thing to do is get a 360 and just practically use everything

I was also intrested in the 2.3 turbo engine but again have been told the transmission would last all of tthree days

Any ideas or project threads of the same nature please let me know or if anyone would want a spotleas 1.4 swap for a not so spotless animal also get intouch as this would save alot of headache

If you convert it to 360 running gear then the torque tube and 'box, diff etc are more than capable of handling the B230 turbo engines up to 250 BHP, or is it 300?

If you keep it 340, then just find yourself a cheap 1700 340 for the bellhousing etc etc and find a similarly low priced Clio 16v and swap the 1800 16v in imo.

Thats what i was thinking but i know the cars are rare as rocking horse feaces are the parts easybto find im more than likly looking for a 360 and go down that route in all fairness as 2.3 definatly sounds better than 1.8

Also a little off topic i need to shed weight and stiffen the suspension so tomorrow the car and i is going on the slim fast and loosing rear seats and all un needed carpets and plastics. I also heard about the steel door bars so will look into removing them. Is that a good idea or will that weaken the chassis too much?
