Engine swap to B230K

Post by Speedy88 » 19 Apr 2012 09:55 am

Hey hey hey,
I've found myself a nice low miler carbed 2.3 for my 360. Thinking about logistics I've only come to the conclusion that I'll have to swap the flywheel.

Please let me know if I'm wrong but all I can think is that I'll need to use the 360 flywheel on the B230K? I can't think of anything else I'll need to do other than transfer all the ancilleries with the engine (like that lovely split vacuum system that I have no idea for what purpose it serves).

Or am I totally wrong, can I just use the B230 flywheel?

What ignition is it running chap? Two issues with flywheels, one is does it physically fit, second is the trigger pattern. My knowledge on redblock runs out at the point that I know some flywheels just don't fit ;)

Seems to be side mounted coil and rotor, same as on my B200K. This may well be worth asking on VOC then.

If your doing the swap, why waste your time with a carb? why not turbo?

Plenty of reasons that I can't be bothered to explain. The carbed is a better engine for me. :)

Can totally see the appeal of a 2.3 carb in an already carbed 360. Very simple swap. Should be able to use the 360 flywheel but if the B230K is from a manual car you may be able to use the ignition system and flywheel from the donor car

Also the 240 that the engine is coming from is having a B23 turbo from the 760 put in it. A rare and very strong engine. I'm really happy that I've going to get to help do the conversion :D

Aye the B23ET is strong, shame being so early it'll be attached to Motronic (unless he's ditching that?!) :D

If the B230K is running points and no flywheel sensor, then use the 360 flywheel, clutch and housing, very simple. I doubt the B230K has a dual mass flywheel so it is also usable if it has a crank sensor (to keep the B230K ignition). Clutch matching may then be tricky.

Nope, doesn't have dual mass. Looked exactly the same as the 360 setup when we did his clutch :)

Is the 240 in question the one that used to belong to Steve Curtis? If so that was running on Renix

Don't think so, it was an ebay job I think. Blue estate with a really knackered exhaust.

i really dont know anything about this engine tbh, but if its anything like the b230fk conversion i did then it isnt to bad, i put the b200 flywheel on the 940 lump and used a mix of 940 and 360 clutch bits but i could have just used all the 360 bits but part of the 940 clutch is supposed to be stronger, used origonal bell houseing but had to cut a chunck out of it for the tdc sensor to fit as it mounts tho the lump and not the bellhouseing. used 360 sump and pic up (straight swap), o and had to use 360 engine mounts, guessing you will to?

lie i say i have no idea if any of that would applie to your conversion so if its not just ignore me lol
