Hi all.

I am new to this forum, but I thought I would pop in and find out a few things about the Volvo I have just purchased.........and what do I find? Yes it is the one advertised on this section

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... eName=WD3V

I eventually went up to Clacton to collect this on sunday, thinking I would have to straight-bar it all the way back home, as I could'nt get hold of a trailer.

After paying for it, I towed it to a local car park (I didn't want to do it on the blokes forcourt, as he was a fairly big car dealer, and it may not have looked good to his customers) ,I spent a couple of minute's tapping the starter motor AND * it actually bleedin started* it then proceeded to drive home 90 miles without fault.

The only thing I was concerened with is that the engine seemed to rev quite highly, but upon reading on here that seems quite normal. (After all the years I have spent working on cars, I never realised these were Vario boxes. )

The advert really didn't do this car justice, the only rust to be found is a 5p piece size on the corner of the bonnet, and the lower front valence.

Other than that it is almost immaculate, never been smoked in I dont think the rear seats have ever been sat in, 5 X new tyres, recently serviced with volvo parts, and absolutely everything works, including the front headlamp washers and wipers. and the best part of all----------it had a nearly full tank of fuel as well......... This must be one of my BEST ever bargain buys..

To say I was amazed is an understatement..........

Look forward to using this forum more and more now.

Paul

HAHA! Hugh 'bid first, think later' Lunnon got owned!

I'm glad it's gone to a good home! It looks like a very nice car - enjoy!

Why on earth do these people not THINK?! I mean a quick tap with a hammer probably cost him £100, at least. I wish I could afford to throw away that kind of money!

cheers

Thanks all.

I have sent a nice polite (grovelling) letter to the previous owner, praising him on how well he has kept the car for 21 years, and enquiring if he has any other paperwork including service bills, MOT's etc to back up the mileage. Just got to see if he replies.

As I said before, I have purchased plenty of sub £100 'dogs' from ebay, but never had a result like this (except for the 1980 opel manta, purchased for £50 sold for £560 to an enthusiast)

After looking over it carefully, I really cannot see any faults with this for an MOT, so as soon as funds permit, it will be MOT'ed and TAXED and I may have to see what 'meets' there are locally to me.

Thanks again.

Paul

LOL, just spotted one of them actually Hugh! You never know mate, some of these cars that are badly advertised or titled can slip through the net and be won for next to nothing, but Ebay is getting a bit too popular now for this to happen too often.

Regarding meets, I'd say there are about 3-4 meets a year (under the auspices of one group or another) within easy access of London area. They generally involve meeting in one place, and chatting about boring things, going for a hoon around some nice roads, then stopping and chatting some more. We'll usually fit food somewhere in the middle too...

Spookily, I'm sure there was a Paul Welle who is a member of the Dutch V3C.

cheers
