can be done quite easily, but insurance will rise alot, the 1.7 isnt a *lot* more powerful and is a *lot* less reliable. more fuel economical thou.

It would be better to "tune" your B14.
Like 5lab says the b17 lacks reliabilety.
And when you have a engine whose run less then 150.000 kms you can consider putting a sportier camshaft in it.
Also consider the compression.
Maybe to 10:1 or like me to 10,5:1 but you must drive on 98 octane fuel then :D .
And a alterd weber carberator from a ford V6 engine.
Or set the std. carb. a bit ritcher.

If you have an engine whos run more thene 200.000 km's really consider a fresh engine from the scrapjard.
Becoase tuning a wornout engine is useless
Here in the notheren part of holland you can get an complete B14 engine with +-100.000 km for +- 100/200 euro.
Mostly driven by elderly poeple

But ofcourse these cars where build in my Country.
So parts are easely found.

apparently the turbo wont fit to well - easier to put a b230 into a 360 - more powerful.

cvt -> manual would require new clutch, driveshaft, gearbox, lever, pedal, box and diff. probably best just to buy a new car.

the problem is that my volvo has a very good body, almost no rust! there are very few in so good condition 300volvos in my country! thats the reason why I would like to put a manual gearbox on my volvo!

I suppose it could be done but it would mean replacing the entire drivetrain from the engine backwards. A massive amount of work even assuming you could source the parts if decent 340`s are as rare as you say.

You`d be much better off investing the time that would take in looking for a decent manual car - a 360 if you want more power.

As for tuning the engine - if you some how managed to get some serious HP out of the engine, I doubt very much that a CVT transmission would cope with it, so you`d be stuck with hotting up the engine AND replacing the drivetrain

I love driving my 1.4CVT but I wouldn`t have bought it if I wanted to tear around upsetting Corsa drivers at traffic lights......

Regards

Will

b230 is only really suitable for a 360 - a 340 has a different drivetrain which would just DIE with that much power
