In a 1981 343DL which I had fitted a 2.3 litre injection lump and 2.0 litre GLS gearbox, my brother had 139 mph(most I'd dared to do was 132mph!) The whole car felt VERY unstable but what a laugh racing a V12 Jaguar and keeping up with it :D
1/4 mile times for it were in the high 16 seconds bracket at Avon Park some years ago.
Alas, rust got the better of it and all that remains is the engine...R.I.P. LGM 194W

Afraid not, as I'm back running VW's again, but I do have many happy memories of the 343 and my Dad's old 345GL(does anyone on here own NNU 980W?)

I have reached a top speed of 5mph in my 340. I'm not able to take her out of my grandfather's driveway yet because I can't afford the insurance, MOT or tax yet. :( I start her up every Saturday though, and she sounds beautiful.

Hello to you all,
I am a new member just joined today, I drive a 1988 340. The fastest speed I've achieved is 93 mph on the A27 between Eastbourne and Brighton. I could have gone faster the the car felt like it was shaking itself to bits.
Cheers, Will (ereg 340)

I've had an indicated 110mph from mine....but that wasn't flat out. Having said that, it takes a mighty long time to do anything much above 80! I think it'd make it to an indicated 120 on the flat (eventually).

Kevin Strong wins this contest I'm afraid....he claims a (I presume laser / radar gun measured) top speed of 153mph on the track in his 360 Turbo (circa 330bhp). That's at 7000rpm in 5th, with a GLT final drive.

cheers

Around 150km/h on track, car was still very stable, no shaking. After 140km/h acceleration was quite minimal, maybe now it would go faster as it does not die anymore when I floor it from 3000rpm or above.
4th gear and around 5000rpm it was then, maybe more sporty cam would help too :D

That's the problem - the K (and even A) cams are off their power by 4000 (and 5000) rpm. A hotter Volvo cam like a K or a V would give much better top end power, but only a B200F can remap the fuelling automatically, and the carb on the B200K is too small to cope with being rejetted enough. :(

EDIT: That's why 1.4s and 1.7s can keep up with the 2.0s at the top end - they have hotter cams....but they take a lot longer to get up there!

cheers

Next week I get fuel injectors + some other stuff. Then I need to save a lot until I get ecu and all little parts.

I'm not sure if I buy another cylinder head or not, but if my cash limits allows I'm going to cylinderhead mod and of course very hot cam.

I'm on very low budget still but I hope to get it to run for next summer. Also I have no garage, that makes some problems too.

Maybe then It could do very nicely to 6000rpm :)
