Very Old Volvos: Volvos are terrible to drive, but so is any other £500 motor and Volvos are at least solid. If you’ve bought an ancient Swedish tank for beer money so you can rag the cr*p out of the thing without it breaking, then you’re OK by me.

Having said that, I've never paid as much as £500 for one and I actually quite enjoy driving the things :D

I recognise that pic, perhaps from ebay :?

Some people don't understand Volvos, and all doing 69 on the motorway! I was doing 85 for a fair way yesterday, and got passed by a couple Volvos.

No it wasn't in the 340 :P Was bringing up the 850 to bring home uni stuff. One of my about 7 days a year I get insurance to drive the thing it costs so much. The 850 is far better for motorway and can pull hard in 5th, usefull somewhere neer Birmingham where the M5 merges with some other motorway. Not sure where it was but there was no slip road, and a truck was beside me. Don't think the 340 would have pulled in front of it :(

The 340 is more fun to drive though, even if it has far less power.

I seem to have gone slightly off topic :P

If your 5 year old’s drawing of a car looked anything like a Volvo 760, you’d have the kid checked for brain damage.
Ahem, Hand up

I thought nearly all 5-year old's pictures of cars looked like boxy saloons. Mine certainly did. But I suppose that when I was 5 there were more cars around in the 3-box style.

I'm, I wouldn't have thought many 5 year olds draw a curvy AC cobra and a Volvo is probably far closer to reality.

That page is also full of crap from a technical point of view. I think he's a TVR fan...each to their own!

Well I dont think anyone with a brain cell reading that would take him seriously, he started out with a valid point, ie volvo's being designed for safety and the domestic market situation but as soon as he went off topic and started using words like hate etc, he lost all validity. I would wager he is also part of the speed camera hate commity, and probably the type to do 50 through a school zone.

But then again I couldn't back that up so unlike some (the author of that crap) I withdraw my statement on the grounds of lack of information

and whats wrong with that , Its fun to watch them scatter like sheep and also good exercise for them lol.

I dont see how anyone can seriously do 50 near a school its pretty impossible with all them people carriers and 4x4' s (complete with spray on mud *) parked all over the kerb and grass verges while each mum picks up there only child and then has to wait while the snot nosed little brat decides which of the seven seats to sit on !!!!!!!

( sorry my two have just left for school after there usual morning argument , rant over )

mind you at least they walk to school and I dont drive them the 300 yards from home to the school gates like most of the mums around here do
( oops sorry there I go again )

*oh by the way if you think I'm joking about the spray on mud , heres the website , you could end up with a 300 that looks like Petes usually do's

Oih! Valid point though! Too many muddy roads, farm tracks and mud around my part of the world!

What a muppet, as usual, all being tarred with the same brush. As many of us prove here, we don't fit the Volvo driving image in many ways!
