I can see quite a good reason why someone is prepared to pay so much money for a piece of R Sport kit.
The carbs went to some guy in Switzerland. In some cantons, you can get your car classified as a "veteran" as soon as 25 years. This means you can run up to ten cars on one registration, and pay a lot less tax. An MOT checkup is due every 6 years, rather than 2 years.
To get this "veteran status" however, the car needs to be entirely original and well-kept. I'm not sure how strict the Swiss are on this, but in Germany (30 years, historic reg, less tax, cheap insurance) you're allowed to modify your car if you use original period items. So twin R Sport carbs on your 343 saves you loads every year in tax and insurance, Yamaha bike carbs won't.

Anyone would think you don't like those Solexs
More to the point, I don't see why anyone would buy new Webers when you can easily get ADDHE C40s for £50 a pair.
