Interesting, I'm sure it used too... Same with 1.4's, that's a bit upsetting!

Can't remember the catalogue off the top of my head, but one I found listed the 23x20 spline (its not 23 as we all well know... it's 22.225... or 7/8") as old Ford, which I happen to posses an owning friend of. Yes, Ford Angli/tina sort of era box's slide perfectly into a 1.7 friction plate and vice versa Ford friction plate and 1.7 bellhousing. Makes it easier for the B18ft conversions to run the 8.5" clutch rather than the 8". Shame the trigger pattern isn't the same or I'd be doing it on the valver...

Point I'm getting to in a roundabout way is that all clutches are the same, an inny bit of x dimensions (of which there arn't many x) and a roundy bit of y diameter (where y goes up in 0.5" increments). I think clutches are the least of our (non auto peoples) problems

Well some are more the same than others.

Take the small economy Reliants for example (6 1/4"). Easy enough clutch to get hold of, but then there are good and bad. Old coil spring clutches are cheap and (not very) cheerful. The last factory diaphragm spring clutches are okayish, but he mutt nuts is a genuine Laycock diaphragm spring. Lovely light action and well constructed. Hard to get hold of though - all the Imp owners snap them up.

So I agree that there are bigger fish to fry and that some catalogues invariably have errors in them.

This is the quality I'm looking for in a replacement for my 360's clutch, which is very heavy. Would you (or anyone come to that) be able to recommend a manufacturer/supplier that would fulfil this want?

Unfortunately, I can't do much in the way of recommendation as I'm a CVT man in the main.

In my past experience of manual cars in general, I have replaced a number of clutches over the years. One of the things I usually find is that the flywheel clutch face usually looks the worse for wear and on three cars at least, I've gone down to the engineering shop to get the flywheel refaced so it's dead flat again and not all wavy. The only other things I can suggest other than checking all the parts that make up the actuation mechanism (pedal pivot, cable, arm, etc. etc.) is to buy a known brand of clutch. Perhaps something like Valeo or Sachs.

An Imp I've been on/off playing with recently had a Laycock when we took the box off, explains why the owner got quite as excited as he did.

As for recommendations, I'm the same, I've only fitted Valeo and Borg and Beck to my cars and been super happy. I have fitted a LUK one once, it's the only one I've ever had slip on.

Hmm. Think I'll look for a Valeo one then. Tried puting the part number (801342) from your catalogue snap in their website, but it come back as non-existent. I suppose they don't make it any more.

OEM Volvo 360 clutch plates were made by Valeo IIRC. Pressure plates and release bearings by Sachs ...
