ok

econ is an aftermarket one fitted where the ashtray goes in the front, okish i spose, far too many colours but works well.

i almost crashed it, no tread on the alloys or i can't drive round a shallow corner at 40 in 4th............ has so regular replacment wheels which i think it needs

questions

theres a clicking from something in the dials he said its the speedo, is this terminal?

how much are tyres for the 5 spoke alloys (the super duper plain ones (alloys))?

thanks

Clicking in the dials is likely to be either the speedo head (back of the dial, I have a spare too) or speedo cable... either way not a major problem to fix.

You should be able to get some decent tyres for them 14" alloys for around £40 each, try www.mytyres.co.uk , I got mine from there and got them fitted locally - far more choice than you're average garage.

Other than that, how did you find the car?

very differnt from my dl

firstly i can see what the bbc review of the car meant by heavy gear change, i thought my 4 speed dl was heavy the 5 speed was pretty stiff, enaged well tho.

a lot smoother, both starting, first time, and running, smoot acceleration. the handling apart from the loss of control on the corner was very nice, lighter steering than the dl too.

the car is pretty clean but does need a new door handle and i think, i my estimation, needs cosmetic work to make it look more plain.

everything worked well, i think offers are coming in tho so i may have to take it either today or tomorrow if it's not already gone.

£275, i didn't think haggling would've helped the cause as 'apparently' there was quite some interest and people wanted to come see it.

would it slipping on the corner have been anything other than worn tyres?

not sure , try other set of tyres first and go from there, could it just have been to much right pedal on a wet road LOL

i'm guessing it was the nasty tyres, it was only 40 and i've done faster round that corner in the 1.4. hopefully insurence will be sorted for friday so i can drive it. reputedly they give more mpg is this true?

The tyres don't even need to be worn. I mean tyres are such an important part, but are often overlooked, and people make do with cheap, sometimes dangerous tyres, either worn, or just very poorly made. At the end of the day, the tyre gripping the road, staying inflated, though all of the pressures, wear, speed and bumps they must endure, it's worth paying for decent tyres. So it may just be that there is one nasty cheap tyre on there letting the rest down, or a whole set of the things that jsut don't grip in the wet!

Excellent stuff anyway with you buying the car, hope you enjoy it.
