Umm, 350€ to get into UK + passport that would cost something too, I think that might be tad expensive at the moment for me, but love to do it someday, that should be really fun

It's amazing just how far away you are Jani. I was thinking of driving to a holiday destination this summer. The RAC has a routefinder function which covers the whole of Europe. To Crete, Greece it was somewhere around 2100 miles. Too far I thought. So I considered North Cape, at the Northern tip of Norway where I have always wanted to go - around 2100 miles again!

Scandinavia seems much bigger than it looks on the map

I guess one thing that makes distance bigger is that you need to move sideways quite a bit, not only up to north.

Finland is bit over 1000km long at north-south axis, to get here by land you need to go trough Denmark and Sweden or then from Russia, or then you can take ship from Germany or Denmark, still long distance to east, germany is completely west side of us as is Italy too.

When you look from Google earth you can find out how UK is around half way in north-south axis between Finland and Greece and also you can see how Greece and Finland are in same level at west-east axis, sometimes distances can be very surprising

AMR, good work on the car, however with that long to go and with people bidding at this early stage, he's mad! Plus, he's entered into Ebay terms and conditions and the auction is still running! Anyway......... look after it.

Anyone know where you can do track days or autocross in the south west? All this talk is getting me interested, although I don't want to push the 340 too much

Even the most experienced drivers can have accidents, in fact I had a scary moment when riding with a friend the other day (he's an advanced driver). He was about to overtake a lorry and I just spotted a scooter coming the other way for a fraction of a second and yelled stop. He'd have seen it before he pulled out, but if gave me a fright.

My father always drove like he would been on race track, so there was also few accidents and I have been in passenger seat, I can tell you it is scary.

Worst accident were when car rolled few times, almost died, well technically I did die, but they did kick start my heart so I'm still here spamming at forums. But that was really long time ago, I was only around 10 at that time.

Anyway such experiences teach many things, so couldn't say that I would have made bad situation analyses when driving, some surprises yes, but quite few, always leaving some marginal for errors.
I just hope that nobody here have to experience such terrible things.

You were at the cheapest place you'll ever find for a track day and it was so close to you, you even drove there!!!!!

Most people in my family are fairly careful drivers, and I follow the moto my grandad used to have. Remember; you may need to drive it tomorrow... If you go out driving like a hooligan, you may well break something, if your luck and don't kill yourself.

He was a mechanic during WWII, so obviously the need for reliability and good maintenance stuck with him

The worst thing about these people who wrap cars around trees, other than endangering innocent people, is that they lower speed limits, and extend the 30 limits way out of town. Near home there's a tree by a layby that several people have managed to hit, and the 30 limit has now been moved further

On the other side of town there have also been a few crashes, and since then I've spotted a mobile speed trap a few times.

Remember, even if you know your limit, there can always be variables you don't expect. There were a few accidents not far from me in the summer after they put chippins on the road. I think it was that really hot week, when roads melted... Anyway it reduced grip, so the people driving on the edge ended in a telegraph pole, and we had to do a diversion.

Just remembered, the window winder handle fell off that day, and as we got close to the accident there was a policeman talking to the car in front, then he came to us and I had to open the door Good times...

EDIT: Hmm yeah there is the Haynes track, maybe I should go sometime on a quiet day. The only thing is, there didn't seem to be too much space, unlike an airfield say...

MJ - I'd buy yourself a scruffy eBay car for track (and everyday?) use....that way you don't risk crashing the minter into a barrier!

A M R - if you really do plan to sell the car easily in a while, don't mess around with it too much. You're very much limiting your audience if it had a welded diff, etc.
