MJ has a point about the Haynes, there was a couple of corners that the bank/armco was a nadgers close, thats why if you see the vid I'm keeping bad lines around the top half where it was filmed. Shame also that the only place I was happy difting was on the big long sweeper where nobody was standing! Must go back there, that was awesome fun for such a little track (the go karting I'm organising is longer ;))

foggy why would he want a welded diff or anyone for that matter,as it doest improve road holding etc i thought it was only for drifting.

for track use its surly the last thing you want+for easy driving too.

I wouldn't say its a totally negative thing to have on a track car, it might give more initial understeer but if you've got the power then it'll help to put it down onto the road and having a welded diff definately doesn't make the car easier to break traction

okay guys, should be picking up the car on friday - all the way from dorchester  so thats about 130 miles argh!

either taking the train or getting a mate or two, or three even, to drive down there so we can drive it back up.

this new job of mine should suffice for petrol and mods and whatever and should be seeing £500+ a month from it. okay thats not a lot for a month, but bear in mind its only 26 hours a week.

heres that pic again if you havent already seen it:

Image

theres a bit of rust that needs sorting as well. if i find more after ive got it, then i'll post a few pics.

you guys think this is bad? easily sortable?
hoping i have no welding or stuff to do. light bodywork i MIGHT be able to tackle by myself, but anything major and then i'm probably gona have to sell it :x

anyways, feedback guys...

ARGH Pirelli P600's! LOL. Well, the rusty rear arch seems to go right down to the rear valance too, so isn't just one spot, but a rear arch repair section should cure that, and get onto rust prevention elsewhere.

The front part below the windscreen.... just hope it's a stonechip or two or something that's damaged it from the outside, not something festering from inside. Did you see the pics I posted of the rot in this area? From that pic you've posted it does look more like a chip going nasty, not rusting from behind.

You could grind, fill, and bodge, but it'll come back. That arch will need welding to sort it properly. That doesn't mean it'll cost the earth, so I wouldn't be too trigger-happy when it comes to selling it. A decent 3dr 360 is a rare thing, so I wouldn't chuck a generally clean car over a couple of manky patches.

The section in front of the windscreen...hard to call from that shot, but may well be stone-chip related. If so, WHY don't people use a touch-up pen when it happens?! It's so needless. The other option is that it's come through from behind, in which case....welder again.

cheers

LOL, well the Pirelli P6000 slating came up in another topic where Chesh was trying to sell some P3000's, and having not used P3000's I'm assuming their name means they might not be as good as a 6000, which is IMO utter sh**e, so working on that theory, a P600, ooooh dear! Not keen on the P6000 range myself, hard wearing maybe, but no grip....... in a dangerous way.

And yes, the rear arch will need welding to repair it, not bodge it. I need to do it on my GLT soon. Sadly the tin worm has eaten a small section, and rather than fill it, as the rest is probably trying to fester through too, I'll get my Uncle to do a proper job and let a new section in.

If it is just a couple of nasty patches as Foggy says, it's a small price to pay repairing those. Things like that can occur in one spot only. like my GLT only has that spot on the rear arch and a tiny bit on the drivers door. The arches, as Foggy has pointed out at a couple of meets, is down to the dirt, salt and crud hardly ever being removed from the lip.

My S70 has P6000s all-round, and they actually seem to be ok, shockingly!

Looks like a nice car - don't worry to much about the rust. It's your first car and you'll probably end up denting it at some point anyway

Just enjoy it as it is for a while, give it a good service, sort out the mechanical gremlins and worry about the cosmetics at a later date - would be my advice.

Are you serious? If it's all cosmetic then I'd not worry about that too much, stop it getting worse and sort it when you have money. You're unlikely to find a cleaner 3 door without paying top dollar

Don't buy Pirelli tires, there was one summer many cases where tires with lot of thread left just destroyed themselves, thread just shredded to pieces and end of tires, that would have been 10 000km left or even more before even at 1.6mm mark.
