Good plan!

Foggy is spot on, insurance companies look for any way to get out of paying anyway, so don't give them a huge opportunity, especially one that is deliberate deception.

FFS, my alloys are declared, despite them being a genuine Volvo fitment, albeit 15". It's not like they are an aftermarket brand, and they are an improvement in safety and road holding and yet I'm paying for this, but at least I'm covered.

Listen to Pete.

I'm having bit trouble with one thing btw, it is this four letter vtec, it is in reality nothing much at all, but some (usually not too bright) kids say how it sounds nice (sound it is making can't be heard over engine noise even if it does make any sound) and how it kicks in (it certainly does not kick in, it certainly does not add anything to combustion chamber either) and all other kind of nonsense crap.

All that damn system does is to add low end torque and keeps emissions down by adjusting cam timing and lift, you would get same high power with aggressive cam but just loose a bit of low end power.

It is bit same thing with F&F crap, but I better not to go there or this will be long evening then

Anyway, you should sit down relax and really think what do you want and stick to that, not jumping from one to another like you would be on fire, try to do decisions based on reason as those are only ones that really are good ones, if you fly in hormone cloud and do every decision by feelings you end up only with crappy car or even with car without insurance that is wrapped around tree.

Young ones, lol 8)

I was gonna say actually....drop a pair of 40s and a K cam on the 360's lump, and you'll have a car just as quick as a B16 powered Civic...but with added sleeper ;) Since it was a factory kit, declaring the alterations is nice and cheap :)

cheers

Or putting Megasquirt in, that would add some high tech factor too, adjusting at parking lot and all kids with their silly big wings will envy you

I remember when I did some mapping and tuning with Megasquirt and pulled to shop's parking lot at evening, there was few chav cars sitting on lot and oh boy that amount of big round eyes and dropped yaws when I play with laptop and did show how I can set rev limiter completely free with few clicks

okay picked up the car today. i was well excited.

BUT

turns out the cars a bit crappy:

a bit of rust in places
rear windscreen smashed
tailgate held shut by a bit of wire
heater fan not working
mile counter (mileometer?) cable snapped
exhaust rattling quite badly
creaky suspension
underside of diff covered in oil
running a bit rich and idling at 1k
drivers leccy window not working
rear fog not working (switch i think)
that metal bar behind the bumper is bent and grille pushed in a bit
indicators dont self cancel most times

thats all i can think of for now. however, i did find 5p :P

hmm what to do? sell it or break for bits? (interior is mint)

Don't break a 3 door 360GLT please... they're all very common faults, bar the smashed rear screen. Do you realise how rare they are? :)

If you've never owned an old car before, or preparead to put some work in to get minor troubles fixed - how are you going to fit an engine with twin carbs?

- Heater not working - resistor in heaterbox
- Exhaust rattling - heatshield/bolts loose
- Broken boot catch, will be fixed with replacement tailgate...
- Suspension - 20 yr old perished bushes
- New rear diff gasket
- Strip down and clean of leccy window motor
- Self cancelling - broken bracket around the steering column

Other than the suspension creaks (which I wouldnt worry about tbh), alot of the problems sound pretty trivial to me! Also, I think you'll struggle making money back by breaking it... parts just aren't really in that much demand.

i see.

fixing it is no problem, i would rather just have a car that i know has been treated well and looked after. the problem i have is time. i am either working or at college. i dont even get weekends off. and as it's nearing the end of the year, theres a lot of coursework etc that needs to be finished, so doing stuff after college is a bit hard for me and its kinda hard to work outside my house in the dark, and if im working, i finish quite late (reminds him of PAYE tax. wankers. stealing over a hundred quiq of my earnings and leaving me with just under £400 :x )

any offers on the car?

about the exhaust, i think its the middle box thats rattling and its a pretty loud noise inside the car as i think its banging against the chassis, but from outside you cant hear it at all. any ideas/quick fixes?

Sucks that the rear screen is broken. Apart from that, it's all routine. Unless you buy a minter (and pay extra for it), you'll have to do that kinda stuff on almost any 300. We're talking about 20 year old cars which cost a couple of hundred quid at the most for a reason.

You, my friend, need a Toyota Corolla. Pimp cars need time or money (preferably both). Sounds like you don't have the time or money for anything more than "something to get you from A to B".

I'm not being a prick btw...I got fed up of 'having' to work on my daily drivers to make them tolerable, so I bought a 'sensible' car. I could have bought a really tidy 300 instead, but I kinda needed something a bit more 'upmarket' for work...hence the S70 girly-FWD mobile :( The same applies to a (at all heavily) modified car - unless you're either some kind of genius or rich enough to get lots of custom work done for you, you need separate project and daily cars.

cheers

foggyjames is right.
First it's Volvo at least 20 years old, parts and upgrades are very expensive.
I can see in GB parts are very expensive ( since you pay in pounds, and they value more than euro ), some parts even cost more than here, my dad buy from official Volvo dealer and 99% of the parts are original.
They do cost like pain in the a**.

If You do have skill and plenty of time ( and i see you're student ) and people like us ( students, people that work a lot....blah....blah ) do not have much time to rebuilt a car from the ashes ( unless you have a very deep pocket and pay smb else to do it for you ).

i think i'll keep this one til i can get hold of carls one.

i just need to get a rear hatch sorted and everything will be alright. the geezer was supposed to ring me back the other day about a hatch, but he never did. im gona ring him tomorrow morning and find out whats going on. £45 delivered, so im pretty happy there.

these little bits i can live with for the time being, but i just have to get that hatch and the exhaust sorted out. i have so little time, i dont even think i'll be able to spray the hatch!

after driving around for a couple of days, ive noticed 1st gear doesnt really get you anywhere. its only until you hit 2nd that you start moving a bit.

for some reason the car feels faster than it actually is, which is quite fun, but jerks quite a bit when you let off the accelerator or stamp on it. maybe thats because of the engine/gearbox mounts?

gearknob keeps popping off if i shift hard and third gear isnt where you'd expect it to be when you shift, so you have to go a bit more slowly to make sure you dont miss it.

no sign of any boyracers yet. maybe theyre hiding in fear :P
