ok so i need a colour code for a red 360 GLT 1984
dose any one know it or know where to find it?
please i need to know asap so i can get my dad to pic it up tommorrow morning

Look on the plate on the bonnet panel just above the Rad, This should have the plate code and vin number on it.... or I think so...

Or you could just ask the paint stockist for a litre of Volvo Sun-bleach Red - I guarentee it'll match perfect

For proof of this, compare your car in your avatar and my car in my avatar - they're the same colour - but you wouldn't know it

Volvo Car Paint Codes

The paint color code identifies the original paint color of the body. The code is found on the vehicle identification plate usually located under the bonnet. The same color code was used on different Volvo models. For example the dark blue code 96 was used on the Volvo 120 and 140 Series. Of course both are exactly the same color. Also note that particular color codes may have more than one color name for marketing purposes.

Some cars will have -1, -2 or -3 in the paint code, such as 100-1. The -1, -2, -3 refer to a different shade of the color. -1 being a lighter shade and -3 being a darker shade.

Volvo originally used a 140° Enamel paint, mostly Glasurit or Herbert’s.

For the repair-market there was an 80° Enamel air-drying paint available.

Volvo's paint codes were changed from December 1988. Both solvent and water based paints are now used on cars. In order to easily identity extra digits have been introduced which indicate if the paint is solvent or water based or has another quality

Example: 850 has the paint code 189-21. The first three digits (189 in this case) is for Volvo's color code 189 Polar White

The fourth digit stands for:
1 = BASF (Glasurit)
2 = Herbert’s (STANDOX)
3 = Becker’s
4 = IDAC/DuPont
5 = Sickens
6, 7, and 9 = not used
8 = IVI

The fifth digit stands for:
1 = solvent based
2 = water based Metallic/Pearl + Varnish
3 = water based Solid + Varnish
4 = solvent based Solid + Varnish
5 = solvent based Pearl shine + Varnish*
6 = water based Solid/Metallic/Pearl + 2 component Varnish
7 = water based Solid/Metallic/Pearl + powder Varnish
8, 9 = not used

*Because of the transparent pearl coat this concept includes a solid color which is applied under the pearl coat

That I don't know, it's possible that colors were used on different models in other countries

What you could do if you wanted to be certain, is to give your local Volvo dealer a call, and quote your VIN number to the parts dept there. Depending on how friendly they are, they might be able to tell you. Signal Red 155 seems about right to me.

That's definitely Signal Red 155. I've got two of 'em I didn't know colours were restricted to certain models before, unlike interior trim. If so, there'll probably be differences from market to market, we certainly got red (155) MkII GLTs over here ...
