Hi guys i have been making these for a while now, and wasnt going to reveal them until they were finished but seeing as its you here is the pic.
When i finish moulding the shape i want it will all be smoothed and painted body colour probably. The pocket has been moulded around a coke can so its a good fit. The speaker hole is to take a 6"
What you reckon guys?
Cheers Adam
Im guessin you mean the actual door card right? If so, I Didn't!! You can carefully and i must add slowly peal off the grey vinyl from the door cards! It turns out they are made from a wood chip and Fibreglass resin mixture, obviously moulded. These door cards are my old ones i had before the GLT ones!!
Cheers Adam
that's excellent! I've been thinking about that for a while now, but the logistics are a bit tricky with window winders, not electric I was intending to just build (commision ) a mounting block for some 5" or 6" holes and tilt them in/up slightly, the only prblem i can think of is recovering them, might need to get some heavy duty stuff to withstand the riggours of everyday useage
Good effort mate! Is there enough clearance for the window mech though?? While you've got it apart, make sure you chuck as much strength into that panel as poss, so as to keep some bass around.
The one warning I'd give...you've probably seen my door builds - they're huge, but necessarily so, as high quality drivers have massive magnet structures that the cavity in the door just can't swallow. I worry about how intrusive this would become in the further-out location required by 6" speakers. For what it's worth, I find 6" speakers typically sound better than 5" (what I have), so if you can make it work...good on you! I'll be watching this with interest, as I'm not yet happy with the outcome of my system, and am considering a further upgrade (let's see if we can get to 3x the value of the car!!)
That might happen - complete with mounting pods, although you'll need a set of GLT door cards to cut up. I'll just cut my GLE ones a bit further...! I have a feeling 6" ones might look very wrong, so we'll have to see.
I wish I had spare time! LOADS of plans, no time to even think about starting them. One day......... the list grows.........
Good stuff though Adam, all the things you're doing Volvo-wise, improvements, tuning, enchancements, restoration, new kit from scratch!
