Steering boss help needed

Just got the steering boss off Adam, tried to fit it but either the boss is too long or the threaded bolt is too short?? Has anyone else tried fitting an aftermarket wheel and had the same problem? Obviously I can saw the end off the boss as it isnt threaded for the last 2cm's anyway which would give me enough thread to get the nut on but its a bit of a bodge!
cheers

I have an astrali boss and wheel , the boss went straight on no probs , not being funny but is the indicator cancelling thingy in the right place as this may not allow the boss to fit corectly, (p.s . sports wheels are great for when you need to remove clocks as you can unbolt them from the boss )

Hmm thats a strange one Mate i do remember seeing the nut that came with the boss is different though!! Have you tried that? As Dai said its worth a try!! If not do you know anyone that can machine the bottom of the boss off, as that will be your best bet!!! As long as it bolts on flush and is safely on the spline it will be fine. Remember my boss is a modified 440 oner and i have had no probs!!! If you do have any more probs, you can have your money back mate!!!

Yeah i'm using the nut it came with which does slip inside slightly but its still 5-10mm off the thread and i'd expect to get a few turns on the nut aswell so its a fair way off, oh well out comes the hacksaw!

Hmmm just found a problem if i cut the end off then the boss will slide on further but then less than half the splines will mesh, the only way therefore would be to cut out about 1cm in the middle of the boss and re-weld it together so that the splines end up in the right place! Does anyone know if there were different boss's for different years? The box just says 300 series 79 onwards, Adam can you remember the name of the ebay seller as I may try asking if he has any others,
cheers

I'm sure my boss is marked the same and it does fit ok.
Are you going to the next meet? as I could bring my spare boss with me and see if that fits ok.

Looking at that pic again Ali does that spring compress when you push the boss on? If so you could do with someone slipping the nut on whilst pushing the boss in? Would that work?

Nah I can get a tiny bit of movement on the spring but when I put the original wheel on the spring doesnt need to be compressed so i'm pretty sure its not meant to, even then there wouldn't be enough travel to get the nut on, i'm pretty sure its not designed to fit but need to contact that ebay seller to see if there were different models as the astrali website is down at the moment, anyone else remember the guys ebay name?
cheers
