Alloys and caliper clearance

Whats the general consensus on fitting alloys over uprated front brake calipers? I know thats a bit of an ambiguous question, but lets say I've managed to fit a set of vented brakes on the front of the 360 (assume disc diamter size is more or less the same), do you think a set of 5.5J14 alloys would fit? I know someone on here had a vented setup (cant remember who though) - which alloys were used with that?
After talking to some 480 owners, whilst I was having my brief stint owning one last month, they reckoned the 5.5J14 alloys would not clear the calipers, but the 6J14 ones would. But I think the 360 has a bigger offset on the hub so that possibly wouldnt be a problem. Am I making any sense?
Basically I'm thinking of putting a bid in for the old 360GLT alloys on ebay, but dont want to buy them if they're not gonna fit!
Any input appreciated!

Chris had the GLT with the vented setup... I may also have some 6x14" rims for sale from my black car...

Put it this way mate when done i will have 280mm vented disks and Impreza turbo 2pot calipers and will fit inside 15" 400 alloys!!
So i cant see why you would have any probs!!

Indeed, Chris was running stock Mk3 rims on Beast, and those that Steve has are very open, so cooling would be good!

Steve, that would be ideal! Let me know if you decide to get rid of them!
Adam, that sounds like an amazing feat! I'd definately be interested in learning more

Pete, that's why I like the look of the alloys on ebay - they're a bit more open, and only a few miles down the road (and look pretty cool!). But 15s would give me more options for future upgrades

Nice one! Good luck with it all then!
Rears sound like too much hard work

but it would be interesting to see the results. You're gonna have one well sorted car by the end of it!

I've only got a small bit of info from the vented set-up mate, it was running on standard calipers, but vented discs (pictures on my site if the uni has gaffered it back together yet...
yup, they have:

Only three pics I'm afraid)
I need to check to see whether I b*ggered my pads or discs last thursday

The calipers sit inside the wheel so the wheel width should not make a difference. The only possible reason I can think of that there is more material thickness. Looking at my wheels and calipers there is plenty of clearance.
