Diff ratio

I know this has been disused before but what diff ratios are available. The the 2ltr lump Vickys car feel very under geared. A taller diff should save the expense of a 6 speed box

Any Ideas are the glt's diff higher geared?

1.4's shortest iirc, there is somewhere on the forum (from over a year ago) all the diff ratios.

GLT has 3,64:1 Shortest gearing is with CVT.

1,3 M45R 3,64:1
1,4 M45R 3,64:1
1,4 CVT 4,51:1
1,4 M47R 3,82:1
1,6D M47R 3,64:1
1,72 M47R 3,64:1
(MK1 and MK2 have same gearings)

B19A/B200K M47R MK1 ->1985 3,27:1
B19E M47R MK1 (360GLE 1985) 3,45:1
B19E M47R MK1 (all except 360GLE -85) 3,64:1
B200K M47R MK2 1986-> 3,36:1
B200E M47R MK1/2 3,64:1
B200F M47R MK2 3,64:1

i have a 4.78/1 for sale for a m45 !! near new condition !!
i wouldnt fit it on a 1.7 or 2.0ltr though as its an early diff which is much smaller than the later heavy duty units. would be fine in a 1.4 if you you want to do have radical accel and no top speed

. 70 mph flat out??

my bro n me imported it form sweden so it wasnt cheap.....

Very good info. The only problem is working out what ratio I have. The 3.27 is the one I want just need to find one!

The list do not include the 89 year what ratio should a 89 1.7 5door hatch have?

1989 = 1988

afaik after 1989 there were no more changes until end of production

You can read the ratio from the diff unit. It's located on the blank surface on the left side of the car. It's on a sticker that is color coded too. Red is 3,64, yellow is 3,36 etc...it also reads the ratio.

Regarding the Diff especially with the CVT model...

Fitting slightly larger wheels on the rear (in theory) will counter balance the high diff ratio..? Or am I overlooking something.

I thought about this, to try and improve motorway economy, dunno if would work though...
