Does any know exactly what difference if any there is between 1.7 na valves and the turbo ones?

Turbo ones are sodium filled i know that mate if thats any help?

I know Volvo tubos are but was not so sure with the Renault engines

I'm happy to be corrected but as far as I am aware both Volvo and Sab were the first to use sodium filled valves. I'm sure a number of manufactures still do not use them.

So, the obvious question... what does one of the most reactive metals do to benefit being put in an engine?

Heat transfer actually - the valve stems are sodium filled to help draw the heat away from the vulnerable valve head/stem interface.

Thats how you destroy them for disposale, drill a small hole in the stem and put them in a bucket of water according the magic green books!!

Oh soem of the useless info in the green books.

Also am I right in thinking at the B172 and B20F use the same valves? I'm sure they do.
