I find motorbike racing at the motogp and other grand prix levels in comparison much more interesting to watch than F1 motorcars. Motorbike racing at any level is very interesting to watch, more action.

However, I don't have that much interest in riding a motorbike. Partly due to the whole vulnerability thing of being on two wheels with nothing to protect me and there being a lot of muppets on the roads.

Also, there are as with anything, one or two clowns that spoil it for everyone else and give bikers a bad name. I have a lot of respect for most bikers, and I always get over a little bit as I see them approaching to save them going onto the wrong side too far to overtake, and often I do get acknowledgement for this, which means I continue to do it! However, some bikers do take some silly and unnecessary risks.

I also think I might end up with some serious injuries or worse if I had a motorbike! I prefer my four wheeled vehicles.

I'm gonna have one...someday and it's gonna be Harley Davidson ( well if i can't have it i can dream of it at present ).

I do respect motobikers but for those with fast and powerful machines less. They like to bully around and overtake at high speed, which can be dangerous for all.

My friend ( well i mentioned him before ) had zx6-r ninja Kawasaki, and felt of it at nearly 150 km\h with no equipment at all. ( well he has everything but he just went to a nearby market.. ). He was very lucky....he slipped of the bike while crossing over the street line. Lines were fresh painted and his bike slipped. He felt on his hands and was injured badly. He injured knees , both hand and bit of torso while rolling after slipping of the bike.

His left hand were injured almost to the bone and right was less damaged.
His speedometer was stuck at nearly 150 km\h in 60 km\h zone.

Now he is OK, healing went perfect, and no signs of injury are on his hands, like nothing happened. He sold his bike for 2000eus ( bought 5500eus ), and he said he'll ride again. Just hope he learned the lesson. People don't make those equipment for nothing.

Because of that, I'm a bit afraid of bikes, and I'm hesitating to buy it in future, cose of this. 4 wheels will be 4 wheels.

Like Pete said for overtaking, respect from biker is rare thing.

Cheers

People get hurt real bad in cars too mate.

I've had 18 bikes, dozens of crashes (mostly offroad) and no plans to ever stop, if anyone enjoys driving, think how good it is when the vehicle you are travelling on has the accalaration nearing a F1 car and every single input you make with your whole body affects your progress, it is much more involved than driving and a really hard to sport to ever be truly great at.

That being said, i have started riding road bikes on the road less and less, mainly due to car drivers not looking for us, and being agressive towards us when we do things just to look out for ourselves, such as when we lane split at lights, it's not just to get to the front of the que, but also as it is safer for us to be infront, even a small rear end accident can leave us with severe injuries, how many of you have been rear ended in a car, i'm tipping almost all... We accalarate away from traffic at intersection as if there isn't cars besides us, then they aren't going to try to change lanes on top of us, and when the grandpa pulls out infront of us at the next side street because he "didn't see" us, we have room to swerve into the next lane, as opposed to being boxed in.

And yes there are idiot bike riders, but idiots are everywhere.

even the little fella is in on the action. 3.5 YO. (he only took his helmet off to pose for the camera :) )

Awwwww, sweet picture :D

I've been meaning to get my motorcycle licence for the past fifteen years or so, but never get around to it. Maybe one day.

Hmm, a ZZR-1300, six months off work and the chance to see Europe. That would be right up my street. Can't imagine Mrs C being up for it though.

In the meantime, I do quite a bit of cycling. Not the same thing I know, but there is certainly a "rightness" about travelling on two wheels.

I have a 100cc Honda scooter and 600 bandit. 2 wheels are good but it makes the car feel soo slow

If you slowly work your way up to bigger bikes it's safer, just like cars. Living in London makes 2 wheels alot faster no matter what engine size. Great feeling passing traffic and my little scooter does around 100mpg

I'd like to try riding motorcross as I also do alot of downhill mountain biking, (which is similar). Too little time and money to do it all

I've been helping a mate recently with his Honda VFR400 and it's been sparking my interest in 2 wheels again. But TBH every spring for the last 3 years I've been saying "time to do my CBT and get a little 125 to mince around on for the summer'. Still haven't done it though. I could sell a car and do it this year as I rarely use the cars now, but I don't really wanna sell either of them :(

I'd really like a Suzuki Bandit in my garage to play on at weekends, but funds definately dont permit at the moment! One day!

When I was a kid I used to run my AR125 hundreds of miles up and down the country, avoiding motorways. Then I had an altercation with a Mercedes Benz on a lakeland mountain road. There was slate all over the tarmac on the entry to an off-camber bend. I decided that if there was a car round the corner I'd rather go over it than under it, so I let go the brakes. I went over it, shattered my knee cap on my own handlebar (I think).

Bikes are dangerous. Even on a 12hp 125 the opportunities for getting into trouble seemed much more plentiful than in a car. If you get into a scrape in a car, you're inside of a metal box and at lowish speeds you should be OK. On a bike you're on the deck in no time and then getting run over by your 4 wheeled bretheren.

Having said that - you really feel alive on a bike. The brain works quicker. You're more in touch with the elements and the physicality of the place that you're in. You slip through congestion. You park anywhere you like. Strangers wave at you all the time.

I miss bikes...

^^
My father run on his Java 250 cc when he was younger and drove it down the stairs ( imagine...i don't do that with my bicycle ) and finished in hospital for 4 months. I didn't ask him what he injured. That's one of the reasons my parents won't let me buy bike while I'm with them.

I'm riding the bicycle all my life. I felt many times and hopefully nothing broke. Training it and i may say I'm bike maniac.
So prefer smt like that ( and that is motorbike ) that have direct controls and feel somehow...free. Do not know how to explain, but to have chopper is my dream ( and possibly the dream of every rocker ). Of course those which look like in 80's...mmmm 80's...

But car is still a car. Much safer. Do no...if somewhere is written that you'll crash it can not be avoided. I respect that.

I used to ride crosser's on fields before I could drive, but then again I also got as much time on anything with an engine. I've been tempted to move from mountain bike to motorbike trials riding a few times, but I like the direct input more. If it was a road bike it'd have to be a delta box effort, but I've got rather stern instructions that I'm not having a bike. I have enough issues convincing Kate rallying driving is safe, let alone a bike as well
