How do i enter the engineroom from the interior?

Post by Nisse »

Hey everybody please help me with a newbie question :)

I bought a digital thermometer for my 360 so i can see what the temperature is outside the car. But where can i lead the wire from the thermometer out to the engines front from the inside of the car? And where is it a good place to put it?

Thanks,
Nisse

In the engine compartment there are 2 plugs left and right to the heater unit. Somewhere aroung the wiper-engine, i dont know exactly. But trough one of these holes leads the cable for the speedometer. So you could use one of these holes to lead the wire trough. They come out under your dashboard. i.e. at the feetend of the passengersseat.

shame you couldnt get hold of the proper volvo external temp gauge because it fits in the dash panel above the temp gauge , If you look at the panel between the engine bay and car interior , you should be able to see some rubber grommets with wires coming through them , your best bet is to gently feed your wires through one of the existing grommets then depending on the shape of your gauge mount it where it is visible from the drivers position

I saw that there's an outlet with cables to the fuse box that it looks like it comes from beneath the dashboard on right(passangers) side. Maybe i could use this? Or is there more "holes" that you were talking about ?

you got a Left hand drive 340 or right?

there are two holes in the bulkhead that the speedo cable and the throttle and choke cables come out of. These cables go through a rubber groommet or insert which is placed into these two holes in the bulkhead. You could use these to run the external temp wire through. They come out behind the dashboard and if you remove the instrument panel you can see these two holes..... might also be possible to access them if you remove the footwheel cover which is above your feet and goes to the sterring column base....

good luck and keep us posted how it goes...

Ok i removed the plastic boarder under the dashboard on passanger side and found all the cables that goes to the fuse box. And next to all the cables there were only one black thick cable that traveled through a hole to the engineroom and it was plenty of space through the hole so i think this might be a good place to use. Now i just wonder where to put the temperature sensor. Either in the front somewhere around the cooling unit or there beside the fuse box near the side so it can reach the actual air thats outside and not the heated air inside the motor room

Hello

If I had my wiring diagrams to hand I'd have a look for you but Im away from home at the moment and dont have any 340 manuals with me.....

I hope you get the problem resolved soon,.... I'd be interested to know what the problem is so post here if you get it resolved..

Im still thinking how and why the fan would work on level 3 but not the highest level........

maybe the fan switch itself it faulty??

did you press the fuse securely into the holder? The copper holders for the fuses tend to bend open and hence make poor contact with the fuse sometimes....

good luck

Shimon

Exterior temp sensors are usually (and best) mounted in the front bumper.

V6 Man, just what I was going to say! The genuine 300's ambient temp sensor mounts into the bumper mounting which can be accessed through the cover caps on the black part of the front bumper. This way it should not be affected by heat generated by the engine, at least not while in motion. I do notice some increase in temp on my ambient temp gauge when the car has been sat for sometime after a journey, and heat has radiated away from the engine.

Okay i'll mount it to the front bumper then, i also believe this is a good place.

shimon340>> Just to repeat it is the level 3 (maximum) speed of the fan that doesn't work and the others do work. Yeah i understand that the fuse holders can get rusty or corroded so it wont get contact but since i have voltage out to the radioconnector it cant be that. Maybe it is the switch itself that's broken. But there's so many cables so i would need a wiring diagram so locate it. Where did you get your wiring diagrams? Can i buy it or download it somewhere ? Really could use one

Thanks for all the answers

Ok so the temp sensor is now mounted around the yellow blinkinglights on the right side of the bumper with a clips. I also found out that many of the lights on the dashboard doesnt work aswell, like the parkingbrake light, the seatbelt light and possible more. I dont even know if the LED for the low-gasoline works. At which level of gas in the tank does the warning light turns on? It wouldn't be too funny to run out of gas with no warning =)
How do i get to these lamps the easiest way? Remove the plastboarder under like i did with the passangers side?

Thanks,
Nisse

two screws hold a metal plate at the top of the dials, remove the carpet under the dash , reach up and remove speedo cable which is a bayonet fitting, then pull dial panel forward disconnect wiring plugs and wiggle it passed the steering wheel (it is easier if you remove the steering wheel )
